Molecular Genetics
- DNA characterization
DNA can be extracted from the nuclei of
leukocytes in a small blood sample and then be analyzed using molecular
biological techniques. Variations in the DNA, polymorphisms or mutations,
coding for proteins of interest in schizophrenia and other psychiatric
diseases (candidate genes), are studied. From each blood sample
a large number of genes can be analyzed.
