Etiologically oriented treatment and the role of the Swedish industry

Developing improved neuroleptics
The pharmaceutical industry has a history of success in developing improved neuroleptics for the treatment of schizophrenia, these substances being especially efficient in controlling hallucinations and delusions.

Still, available treatments are far from optimal
Nevertheless, the treatments available today are generally far from optimal. They have not succeeded in eradicating the debilitating effects of the disease on the patients´ motivation, general functioning in society or quality of life in total. A major reason for this lack of optimization is that treatment is symptomatic rather than etiologically based.

Development of treatment systems for mental disorders
An important goal for the research within the HUBIN consortium is the development of etiologically oriented treatment systems for schizophrenia and other mental disorders.
