Facts about the education program for nurses Sweden

The job market for nurses in Sweden is very bright. Many nurses today work for temp agencies, while others work in a traditional fashion, as regular employees or substitutes.

The education program is 6 semesters long, including clinical practice.
After the basic education, it is possible to specialize to become a nurse in for example general surgery and medicine, anesthetic health care and intensive care, psychiatry, oncology, or become a nurse in surgery, X-ray nurse, or midwife.

A large number of colleges and universities in Sweden. See the each respective college’s/university’s homepage for more information.

About 3000 nurses get their degree each year in Sweden (according to statistics from the past five years).

Last year (2002) there were about 125 000 active nurses, and 7800 midwives, in Sweden.
