The future

The material collected in the HUBIN consortium can continuously be expanded with interviews and blood-sample collection from patients, relatives and controls. Clinical subcategories will be searched for, using the different clinical data sets and multivariate statistical and data mining methods.

Within this project and previous similar studies, DNA and clinical phenotypic data are so far available for ca. 250 schizophrenic patients and a similar number of healthy controls. Polymorphisms for a number of candidate genes will be examined in relation to psychopathology and brain imaging data. The aim is to obtain DNA and interviews for about 160 subjects every year.

When a sufficient sample size has been obtained (i.e. more than 700 subjects), DNA will be further analyzed with regard to polymorphisms for up to 10 000 putative candidate genes using array techniques, developed within a HUBIN method development project.
