Volume and structure
From two sets of segmented (discrete and
continuous) MR image volumes from each subject, measurements can
be made of total intracranial volume and a series of "Talairach
boxes" comprising larger anatomical structures. Some structures
(caudate, putamen, thalamus and hippocampus) are delineated using
artificial neural networks or manual outlining. A method for the
parcellation of the cerebellar vermis has been developed.
With the present methods about 500 quantitative
variables from each individual brain are recorded in the HUBIN database.
In May 2001, about 100 patients and a similar
number of healthy control subjects have been examined.
