Tests, methods and rehabilitation
Tests and method development
Systematic observations are made of psychological functions. Traditional
tests are used, and since the tests are normalized and calibrated
the results can be compared to the general population. Besides revealing
which functions that are affected, the tests can also provide information
on the extent of malfunction.
Data on fundamental psychological functions
(e.g. attention, learning and memory) as well as more complex functions
(e.g. planning, problem solving and behavior control) are collected
from patients and healthy controls.
One part of the project has been to update,
modernize and computerize the traditional tests to make them state
of the art in neuropsychology.
Rehabilitation
A neuropsychological perspective is useful for rehabilitation of
a patient. A psychologist can identify the assets of the patient,
and help to strengthen them to support the recovery. Neuropsychological
functions, e.g. memory or concentration, can also be trained for
rehabilitation. The training is practical and concrete, and the
patient experiences an enhanced quality of life.
