Schizophrenia is a major and severe psychotic disorder, characterized by a wide variety of symptoms. The basic feature however is a significant impairment in judgement and mental functioning. Schizophrenia affects about 1 per cent of the population and this often results in devastating consequences for the individuals and their families.
