Media tips 2002
Norwegian film at
its best (03/30/02)
It
was nominated for best foreign film 2002, have been seen by almost
half the population of Norway, and have received excellent reviews
wherever released. We're talking about the Norwegian movie "Elling".
In Sweden and other countries "Elling" has indeed been
very well-received by the film critics, but has not quite attracted
as big of an audience as in its home country Norway. Which is a
pity, because "Elling" is a real grain of gold. It is,
despite its seemingly boring topic - two middle-aged men who meet
while being treated for their mental health problems in an institution,
and then at their release move in together in an apartment in Oslo
- hard to live the movie theater without a big smile across the
face, and with a bubbling hope for the future of mankind. All the
characters are wonderful, the acting first-class, and the movie
gives a sense of warmth in a way that no other movie that I have
seen in a long time has. I really wish the international attention
"Elling" got through the Oscar nomination results in more
people heading for the theatres to see it also outside Norway. So
all of you who still haven't seen it, please do! Would I rate the
movie, it would without doubt get five Hubins of five possible.
More information about the movie can be found
on your local theatres' homepages and in the local papers' movie
review section.
