Artists with a need of expressing themselves

Schizophrenia may influence one's creative ablility in different ways. The ability may get extinguished as with Sigrid Hjertén, or it may change as with Car Fredrik Hill and Ernst Josephson. The illness may also provoke a latent talent as was the case with Adolf Wölfli and Aloyse Corbaz.

Many schizophrenic artists have a strong need of expressing themselves. If they are withour material they may use anything. Among other things Ester Henning made drawings on the underside of the benches at the hospital. When she had no crayons she painted with flowers and leaves that she pulped with her fingers.
