Sigrid Hjertén- one of the most prominent

Sigrid Hjertén is reckoned by many experts as one of the most prominent of the artists who introduced modern art in Sweden in the nineteen tens. A newly discovered picture, Kvinna i ršd interišr ("Woman in red indoor picture"), was sold at Bukowski's to a price of 2,45 million Swedish crowns.

Contemporary critics often had a negative attitude
writingBut like so many other artists Hjertén was often fighting an uphill battle during her life. Most contemporary critics had a negative and even scornful attitude towards her works of art, and many of them wrote deeply offensive reviews. Among other things her paintings were called idiocy, humbug, horrors and products of handicap.
