Thirty years of art

paintingRich production
According to an estimation by Katarina Borgh Bertorp (LINK), who has made several exhibitions with Hjertén's art, her total production amounted to slightly more than 500 paintings, together with sketches, water-colours and drawings; Sigrid Hjertén took part in at least one exhibition each year from her debut in 1912 and during the whole nineteen tens.

Reviewers get more and more appreciative
Even if the critics were seldom pleased Hjertén was selfconfident as an artist. She knew her value and she was driven by a strong passion. Besides, all reviews were not negative.

In spring 1915 Sigrid Hjertén was exhibiting at Galerie Der Sturm in Berlin together with Isaac Grunewald, Edward Hald, Einar Jolin and Gšsta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN). The name of the exhibition was Schwedische Expressionisten and it included the most avant-garde of Swedish art. The exhibition was favourably received. By the way, August Brunius, the art critic of Svenska Dagbladet, has a positive attitude towards Hjertén's art from the beginning, and he describes her works of art in a lyrical tone. After some time other reviewers get more and more appreciative too. However, the painter does not get a full recognition until after her large one-man exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm in 1936.
