Oskar Palm

Oskar Palm who was born in 1896 studies for a painter and becomes a clever craftsman. Gradually, though, he starts to abuse alcohol. He also gets psychically ill and developes schizophrenia. Oskar Palm gets to the mental hospital of Sankt Lars in Lund, Sweden, in 1941. There he makes drawings "of a rigid schizophrenic kind", and he paints "rather sick pictures", according to the case-book. He also carves animals which he paints and varnishes. At the hospital's department of handicraft he successfully occupies himself with staining and painting. Oskar Palm remains at the hospital until his death in 1968, for totally 27 years.
