Ingela Edkvist's study has the title "Between relationship and kinship. Stories of relatives of mentally impaired persons - Anhörig 300" (the text is in Swedish). The study was performed within the frames of the Swedish project "Anhörig 300". In december 1998 the Swedish parliament voted a special stimulation grant of 100 million Swedish crowns for three years (1999-2001) for the local authorities to make contributions, in cooperation with the relatives and volunteer organisations, directed at relatives and close friends of old or mentally disabled individuals, or individuals who have been ill for a long time. The funding is intended to speed up the development of different forms of support for relatives who nurse a family member. The aim of the work is supposed to help accomplish a lasting quality increase in the support offered by local authorities to relatives and other close acquaintances. One of the commissions for The National Swedish Social Welfare Board is to evaluate the project, which is expected to be finally accounted for by June 30, 2002.

After the local authorities have distributed the grant between the various target groups, only a reduced part will have been spent on measures intended for relatives of mentally impaired people.
