A shock to see your child in such a bad condition

Eva’s son Lars got the diagnosis schizophrenia 24 years ago. Like so many other mothers Eva fought alone at home with her son’s illness for a long time before she took him to the hospital. And like so many other mothers she was blamed for having caused her son’s mental disorder.

- To "break the symbiosis" between me and Lars I was forbidden to see him. But I still went to the hospital every day and asked questions. Why was he being locked up and drugged? After four days I was finally allowed to meet Lars and it was a chock. Lars was bent like a knife and you could see the whites of his eyes. I thought it was because he had caught a serious illness. But then I was told that it was because of the medication, says Eva.

Eva often took her son home. But she and her husband did not receive any help from the society. Eva claimed psyhological support for her son because of the severe medical side effects, but without success. Although she did eventually get in contact with an almoner. After a while Eva’s son also got his own home.
