The social workers within the home support
system are eager to get in contact with relatives. Sometimes, the
client will not give her consent. A case manager or a relatives
consultant, for instance, then tries to find out the reason, and
motivate the client to permit contacts in the future.
Relatives
can also call the home support if they need to talk. Someone who
nurses a close person at least five hours per week is entitled to
monetary home support subsidy. If the nursing includes at least
17 hours a week, and the relative is under 65 years old, he or she
may be employed by the local authorities.
In some places, there are residential settings
for short-term living, where a mentally impaired person can reside
temporarily when a relative needs a vacation. A personal assistant,
help and nursing at home, a contact person, escorting services,
and a specially equipped home are other examples of support that
can reduce the relatives burden. The possibilities to receive
this kind of help and support are, however, very different between
different areas.
