Future trends
Johan
Cullberg is optimistic about the future. He believes that psychologists
and biomedical specialists will have an increased cooperation and
dialogue, and he can see large advantages in increased cooperation
between different medical specialties. In Cullberg«s opinion, interdisciplinary
science is the key to success. The understanding of psychosis and
schizophrenia can not be obtained from a "one-issue-model". Complex
questions require cooperation over the boundaries to provide a satisfactory
answer, says Cullberg.
Educating the psychiatrists of tomorrow
Cullberg has hope and faith in the young medical and nursing students
and those in the beginning of their professional life. He considers
increased cooperation between different staff categories necessary.
The dominance of the physicians must be diminished, and more staff
categories have to be involved in the design and implement of the
care.
- Many persons in the academic psychiatry are stuck in a narrow-minded
and conventional medical thinking. We have to put in a lot of effort
to educate the physicians and psychiatrists of tomorrow and to give
them the potential to work in their own way. It is also necessary
to create alternative carrier paths. A good doctor should be able
to develop his role as a doctor, and not be forced to choose administration
as the only way to change the content of his work.
Danish conference on psychosis
In the close future Cullberg plans to take part in a Danish conference.
The aim of the conference is to discuss psychosis, and Cullberg«s
latest book will be used as a reference.
