Schizophrenia has active and residual
phases
Active
phase
During the active phase of the disorder, the patient experiences
a psychotic state of consciousness, also called psychosis. Hallucinations
and delusions are prominent symptoms of this psychotic state.
The psychotic symptoms of schizophrenic patients
also include impaired attention, disordered thought processes and
disturbances of affective expression.
Residual phase
In less active phases of the disorder, the patient is said to be
in a residual phase.
