So, schizophrenia is not split personality. What is it then?

Schizophrenia is a mental disease which manifests itself in the activites of the mind. The disease damages a variety of functions and makes life difficult for those struck with the disorder.

The disease makes it difficult for a person to tell the difference between real and unreal experiences. People with schizophrenia may, for example hear voices or belive that they are beeing persecuted or injured by those around them or by alien external forces.

Schizophrenia also impairs the ability to think logically, creatively and imaginatively and to use language to express idas with clarity.

feelingsAffects the ability to experience and express emotions
The disease affects the ability to experience and express a varity of emotions, such as love and fear. Therefore, emotinal responses to other people and to behaving normally in socilal situations may be confusing and toublesome for schizophrenic patients.

People with schizophrenia may also have difficuly in remembering, talking and behaving apporpriately.

Abnormalities in many mental activities
No single sign or symptoms defines schizophrenia. It is defined by the fact that people who suffer from it experience abnormalities in many different kinds of mental activities.
